At Coach My Sport, we are proud to be much more than a multi-sports coaching organisation. We are a registered charity driven by a simple but powerful mission: to remove financial barriers to sport while reducing the amount of reusable sportswear and equipment being sent to landfill. We believe that every child and every member of our community deserves the opportunity to take part in sport, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Our founder, Tony, recognised that many children were missing out on sporting opportunities because their families simply could not afford the necessary kit or equipment. At the same time, he saw countless items of sports clothing and equipment sitting unused in garages and cupboards, gathering dust. Coach My Sport bridges that gap. We collect donations of unwanted or unused sportswear and equipment, refurbish items where needed, and redistribute them at no cost to the children and young people who need them most.
Central to our work is the principle of a circular economy — part of the solution to our global climate emergency. A circular economy ensures that nothing goes to waste and everything has value. It is an all-encompassing approach to life and business which, in simple terms, can be explained as “make, use, remake” rather than “make, use, dispose”. By giving sports clothing and equipment a second life, we reduce waste, cut down on landfill and help build more sustainable communities.
All donated items are carefully sorted and prepared for reuse, ensuring good-quality kit is placed back into the community rather than being thrown away. Through this model, we not only widen access to sport but also promote sustainability and responsible recycling within schools, sports facilities and local organisations.
As part of our commitment to widening access to sport, we:
- Provide essential sportswear such as boots, trainers, jogging bottoms, tops and other kit to ensure no one is excluded.
- Supply tents and camping equipment to give underprivileged children the chance to experience a holiday.
- Provide specialised wheelchairs to enable disabled individuals to participate in wheelchair sports, working in partnership with FVDS.
- Recycle sports clothing and equipment by collecting from schools, sports facilities and sports companies — whether items are second-hand or new — helping to significantly reduce landfill waste and encouraging responsible recycling of surplus stock.
We also operate a referral scheme, allowing schools, social workers and sports coaches to request clothing and equipment for individuals who would otherwise be unable to take part in sport. By working together with our community, we are creating opportunities, supporting inclusion, protecting the environment and ensuring that sport truly is for everyone.
